Day 4 Easy day in local area.
Today it was cool, mostly cloudy and high of 15C. Had a nice Gale breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, croissant with pumpkin jam in the condo. Then we did a walkabout in Sao Martinho. Visited the local tourist office, where the attendant spoke perfect Portuguese to Gale. Visited a very nice cafe, where Gale watched a worker make a cake (no pictures though). Went to the local main church and a small chapel on hillside that overlooks the harbour/bay, where the local fisherman would go to pray before going on long fishing voyages (or so we surmise). We also passed by a local abandoned (shockingly) Hotel Parque…..see pic. Unbelievable that it is near town centre and sits abandoned, nobody buying it to fix it up or demolish to use the property.
In the afternoon we went to Nazare / Sitio. Gale was trying to hunt down some sheepskin slippers from the locals and she also chatted with the local ladies selling nuts, figs and fruits. Stopped at cafe for a bica (expresso) and tasty tart. Walked down towards the lighthouse, stopping at the elk. The surfers were done for the day it appeared, surf was pretty calm.
Street in Sao Martinho near cafe where we had a bica (espresso) and pastry.
Town of Nazare, seen looking down from the hilltop sister town of Sitio……
