Day 32 move to Olhos de Agua

Today the weather was mostly sunny with a high of 23C.

Today we moved from Lagos in the western Algarve to Olhos de Agua (translates to water eyes), a town in the Albufeira area, about 10min drive from the center of Albufeira.

We had visited this area on a previous trip, though not explored this town in any detail.  It had several appealing features, from the great nearby beaches, to its’ close proximity to Albufeira and the central Algarve.  It is much quieter than Albufeira but has lots to offer.

Olhos de Agua is a small town, but has a good number of restaurants, bars and small shops.  It has a moderate size supermarket, a small local produce market and is close enough to Albufeira to be able to pick up any other needs with a short drive.   The central part of the town is built around the beachfront where fishing was once the focus.  This area has a nice cliff encircled beach, suitable for various activities and a nice promenade for watching the activities and enjoying a drink or meal.  The area has lots of apartment vacation rentals as well as large and high end hotels.  The condo we rented is on a quiet cul de sac street that ends at a walkway and steps which leads down to the beachfront.

Another appeal is the town has several beautiful beaches nearby, that are great for walking or other activities.  To the west, about 10min walk from the condo is the Maria Luisa Beach.  A beautiful beach surrounded by cliffs that has fewer visitors because it has little parking and is more easily reached by foot than car.  Less than 10mins (you can also walk there along the shoreline at low tide) drive east is the Praia da Falesia (translates beach of cliffs) Beach.  Praia de Falesia Beach is perhaps our favourite Portugal beach for walks and consistently shows up on various lists of not just one of the best beaches in Portugal but recently ranked 6th in the world on Tripadvisor best beaches ranking.  It is about 5km long and stands out because of how it is framed by stunning 200 feet high red-orange-beige cliffs.

To learn a bit more about Olhos de Agua the website below has some good info.

Our time in this area will focus on relaxing walks on the beach and surrounding areas, some visits into Albufeira, some trips to use a driving range at some nearby golf courses (less than 15mins drive) and some day trips to several interesting towns (Silves, Loule, Sao Bras de Alportel, Olhao, Vilamoura/Quarteira & Tavaira) within about 30-45mins drive away.
