Day 6 Deja vu…..liked it so why not go back.
Weather today was cool 15C cloudy with showers.
In the morning we went to a local coffee shop (as the coffee machine in the condo broke). We also went to the local market in Sao Martinho do Porto. Gale also scouted some nearby second hand shops.
So, we must have liked Alcobaca, because we went back today in the afternoon. We did a tour of the Wine Museum - “Museu do Vinho de Alcobaca”. The museu has a guided tour. We had to wait about 20min for another group to finish, during which time we toured the exhibition they had onsite of famous made in Portugal cutlery. Apparently the cutlery is world renowned. We should have known this as we had bought a small dicing knife at Sobey’s from Portugal and it works great, lol. The exhibition was actually very informative and interesting.
So, we happened to be the only two people on our guided tour, with of course our young tour guide. The museum is quite impressive, with many different pieces of wine making equipment, many old wine bottles and labels on display. It also included cask and vat cellars. The museum is on the site of a former large government run winery. Many of the displays were literally in the cellars used to store wine. Pictures are the best to demonstrate……
