Day 59 Trip to Tavira & Barril Beach
Today the weather was beautiful and sunny, daytime high of 27C.
We drove to Tavira today, about 45mins drive from Olhos d’Agua. We had taken a day trip here previously. We spent the morning walking around the town. Tavira is a beautiful town that sits on the Gilao River. It is a place where many Americans and Canadians go in escaping winter. In various descriptions of the town you might hear, romantic, historic, quaint and it can be all of the above.
The streets are filled with well kept buildings, pedestrian alleyways, a castle, picturesque bridges, a tower with unique camera attraction, among other features.
There are lots of restaurants, cafes and shops in Tavira. Tavira is getting close to the Spainish border and you will see the influence in the town, including with some restaurants having Tapas on the menu. We had a pizza lunch at a local Indian restaurant and it was very good.
Here are some pictures from our walking around the town:
It is about a 10-15min drive to get to the spot where you park for Barril beach. You then walk across a pontoon bridge that spans the Ria Formosa and then you can walk about 15mins or take a quaint little train across the wetlands.
