We arrived in Sesimbra after about a three hour drive from Mertola.
Sesimbra is a seaside town about 40mins south of Lisbon. It is more popular with Portugese tourists rather than international jetset. Here is a description from a tourism website:
“Sesimbra is one of the finest beach resorts in Portugal. It is adored by the Portuguese who flock to the region for their holidays, drawn by the pristine beaches, relaxed atmosphere and outstanding seafood restaurants.
Sesimbra is situated on a gorgeous sandy bay that nestles at the base of the Serra da Arrábida hills. Historically Sesimbra was an important fishing town, and today it retains its distinctive Portuguese character and relaxed pace of life.
Aside from the beautiful beaches, there is a lot to see and do within the Sesimbra region. There is an ancient Moorish castle, a busy fishing port, the Serra da Arrabida hills with its many hiking & cycling trails, and a picturesque coastline for kayaking or boat tours.”
We stayed here for three nights at a beautiful oceanfront hotel, Sesimbra Hotel & Spa (since then renamed as the Sesimbra Oceanfront Hotel). The hotel was fantastic. We had a beautiful balcony with an ocean view from the sixth floor. The hotel had a spa at ground floor and on the sixth floor an outdoor infinity pool. It had a great buffet breakfast each morning.
While in Sesimbra we walked the beach, relaxed in the beautiful hotel, walked around the town streets, visited a couple of local museums, eat our meals in local restaurants in the town, visited the Sesimbra castle and took a part day trip to Cabo Espichel and Praia do Meco Beach. We had three great supper meals in local restaurants, two of those were delicious seafood.
